The team

Didier Jeanne: First fishing experience in 1974 at Granville (Manche area, France). Fishing Chief from 1979 to 1997.

After over 30 years of experience at sea, Didier decided to retire and moved to Cape Verde. He ended up more involved than ever in the sport fishing especially with Marlin.

Didier did set up "Residential Alto Fortim" to receive fishermen and tourists in Cape Verde.

He met Calu, a Cape Verdian skipper who knows all the secrets about the big game.

With Didier and Calu, you'll meet two experienced skippers who want you to have the time of your life in the cobalt-blue waters of Cape Verde.

ABOUT CATCHES

With statistics of 350 days of sunny skies a year and constant NE prevailing winds of 15/20 knots, Cape Verde is a paradisiac archipelago where sub-marine mountains have been discovered by Marlins well before men did.

The channel exit between Santo Antao and Sao Vicente is a great spot for "blue marlins", very well known by international fishermen. Blue marlins captured at S. Pedro, spot which is protected from the dominant winds, made the archipelago known worldwide. Catches averaging 200 to 300 kilos are common, some specimens exceeding the 500 kilos mark.

All year round the Blues are there but the combination of sea water temperature with lower winds a bit warmer, the ideal time is from March to November, with some variations due to the temperature changes.

Remember that fishing or not, you are sure of best things in life: sunny skies, 70°F at night and 85°F day time, dry weather, no bugs of any kind, political stability, low cost of living, good restaurants, no religious fanaticism and… on top of everything the only surrounding country all around is the sea.

The significant quantity of Wahoo is also an element of fishing in Cape Verde. Big yellow tunas (yellow fin tuna) and sharks can also be found.

For fishing amateurs there are many varieties of grouper ("garoupa"), but also amberjack ("esmoregal"), toothed, lines and crabs.

Big drag fishing and small drag along the coastline can be practiced all year round, although December and January present a high probability of rough sea.
